This week, August 4th through the 10th, is International Assistance Dog Week. It’s a time to recognize and appreciate all that these canines do for their owners. Educate younger people and those who are not aware of the role these pups play in society, and look at past events and emergencies where lives were saved because of an assistance dog. Many individuals have disabilities or limitations that make everyday life that much harder than the average person. Breeders and trainers work tirelessly to ensure the dogs they raise are the epitome of four-legged helpers. These dogs can do a wide array of jobs or commands ranging from grabbing medications, guiding, calling for help, performing CPR, and providing comfort and safety to their owners. So, this week, applaud those canines that go above and beyond to help their owners go day to day without worrying about how their conditions affect their lives.
