NPW: Day 6- Emergencies happen: Be prepared

We understand that there are no emergencies veterinary clinics in Yankton. With this information we try our best to fit in your pets when there are problems that we can handle. Sometimes, there are some cases that we cannot handle due to lack of resources, staff, or time. We are open 5 days out of the week, which means there are 2 days where we cannot tend to your pets. It is important to have a plan on these days that we are closed or if we need to send you to a bigger clinic since they are better equipped to treat emergency situations. Make sure you are knowledgeable on the nearest emergency clinics and call ahead to ensure they are prepared for your pet when you arrive. When dealing with your injured or sick pet be cautious of the mouth, our pets do not want to hurt us but sometimes the issues they deal with are so painful and uncomfortable, ultimately their instinct is to bite. Often times our pets eat things they are not supposed to, in this case you should call the Pet Poison Hotline at 855-764-7661 or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center 888-426-4435 and see a veterinary professional as soon as possible.
